Easy Money Domains

Follow up to my previous post about mining your logs for search terms. This also works for Pay Per Click - terms your bidding on.

First, check your log files and your Pay Per Click accounts for 3 or 4 word search terms. Let’s say you are bidding on Red Widget Prices. Go see if red widget prices .com or .ca is registered. No? Register it.

Put up a fast 3 or 4 page template based site. Using the following onpage optimization techniques:

  • Your title tag for your home page should be Red Widget Prices
  • Use a description meta tag that talks about red widget prices
  • Add three or four paragraphs talking about red widget prices
  • Insert near the top of the page (I like after the first paragraph of content) a form or action that converts your visitors. Make sure this conversion is prominent. It should be the focus of the page.

Once that’s loaded, go find a couple of dozen directories or easy links to point at the site. Use the anchor text ‘Red Widget Prices’.

Wait 3 weeks. You’re now likely to be on the front page, if not #1 for the search term ‘red widget prices’. You won’t rank for anything else, but on that one term you’ll be king.

Lather, rinse repeat. Do it 10,20,30 times. All of a sudden you have diversified your search engine traffic substantially, getting business from a wide variety of terms on a wide variety of sites. Not the most wholesome of approaches but it’s absolutely a great - and easy - way to mix things up a bit.
